The Athens Area Community Foundation Nonprofit of the Year Award honors organizations that are making a meaningful difference across our region.

Each year, we recognize nonprofits that demonstrate excellence in leadership, innovation, collaboration, and community impact. This award is one way we elevate and invest in local organizations that are doing critical work in our community every day.
The Nonprofit of the Year Award recognizes nonprofit organizations serving Athens-Clarke, Barrow, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, and Oglethorpe counties that demonstrate excellence in:
Nominations are submitted by community members, board members, and nonprofit staff members. Selected organizations are invited to participate in an in-depth application process where they provide additional insight into their work and impact.
A committee of community leaders reviews applications and selects a group of finalists, as well as the annual honoree.

Each year, we gather to recognize and celebrate the nonprofit organizations that help our community thrive. The Nonprofit of the Year honoree is announced as part of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting, where we highlight the important role nonprofits play alongside the broader business community. This event is an invitation-based celebration that brings together nonprofit leaders and community partners.
