COVID-19 Community Response Fund

Philanthropy always plays a critical role in our community. Especially during times of public emergency, private philanthropic support can tremendously help local organizations. At the Athens Area Community Foundation, we encourage you to support organizations that work with those individuals and families who are at risk in our community.

About the Fund

The COVID-19 Community Response Fund, hosted by the Athens Area Community Foundation and in partnership with United Way of Northeast Georgia, has been established to support local nonprofit organizations as they work to respond to the effects of COVID-19.

With the support of community leaders and data-driven specialists, the Athens Area Community Foundation will be able to deploy financial support to the organizations meeting needs of our community members impacted by COVID-19. United Way of Northeast Georgia and other grant reviewers will assess the needs of our region and the corresponding organizations providing emergency services. This strategy will help guide financial support to area nonprofits throughout the coming months.

When will funds be deployed?

A grant committee has been established to assess the current and future needs in our region. This fund will provide for our region in two phases: 1) emergency response and 2) community recovery. As such, funds will be distributed soon for immediate needs and in the future as needs arise in our recovery from this pandemic. We will update organizations, donors, and the community when we are prepared to deploy funds.

Can an organization apply to receive funding?

We know there are many organizations in our region and our coverage area is large. As such, we are trusting the guidance and knowledge of United Way of Northeast Georgia, Athens Area Community Foundation, local governments, and community partners, as well as using collected data to determine the funding recipients. At this time, we are not accepting applications. We will update organizations, donors, and the community when we are prepared to deploy funds.

At this time, we are not permitting designation. Our region is so interconnected – with many nonprofits based in one county and serving a number of others. Our committee will closely analyze data and regional needs as they change and will adapt accordingly.

I’m an individual who has been infected by COVID-19. Can this Fund help me directly?

We understand many individuals and families have already been affected by the outbreak, and more will continue to be affected.
